Connecting with others in Langley

July 29, 2022

Are you struggling to figure out how to meet people? Maybe your spouse has passed away or you’ve recently moved to a new area. As we get older it becomes increasingly important to connect with others.  There have been many studies conducted that link human connection to an increase in lifespan. Thankfully most areas have places geared towards seniors.

In Langley, there quite a few Seniors Centres that have everything from meals to social clubs:

Langley Seniors Resources Society- 604- 530-3020,  https://lsrs.ca/

Langley Seniors in Action –  email: info@langleyseniorsinaction.ca, https://www.langleyseniorsinaction.ca/

Brookswood Seniors Centre – 604- 530-4232,  https://www.brookswood.ca/

Aldergrove Veterans & Seniors Society – 604-856-3271

Many community centres also have groups and glasses geared towards the mature age group. The City of Langley has a program called Active Aging which includes such classes as Yoga and Fit for Life, as well as social groups like Bridge and Poker. https://city.langley.bc.ca/recreation-culture/recreation/active-aging-programs

The Township of Langley has programs for the mature adult as well. The Walnut Grove community centre has Pickleball and Badminton for the 50+ age group, as well as aquafit and arthrosize almost every day of the week. https://www.tol.ca/recreation-culture/calendars/

If you like walking, Willowbrook Mall has walking before the mall opens. Many of the regulars end up at the food court afterwards to have coffee and a bite to eat. Willowbrook Shopping Centre is located at 19705 Fraser Hwy., and walkers can register with the club by phoning 604-530-4492 or visiting the concierge desk

Here are a few other ideas that might be available in your community. Many of these can be found in your local Facebook Groups:

  • Groups at your local church
  • Dating sites. Some are geared towards the mature adult
  • Gardening clubs
  • Volunteering
  • Dog parks
  • Card playing groups
  • knitting/crocheting

Whatever you decide to do, connect with others in your community. It will benefit you physically and emotionally!
